Google will slash 12,000 jobs, making it the most recent tech company to do so
Early on Friday, Google made massive job cuts public and disclosed plans to eliminate 12,000 positions, following other digital behemoths in doing so. In an email to Google staff that was later made public on the corporate blog, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, acknowledged the layoffs.

excellent individuals we worked arduously to hire and have enjoyed working with. I apologise sincerely for that “Pichai penned. “I take full responsibility for the choices that brought us here . Since it weighs deeply on me that these changes will have an impact on Googlers' lives.” Periods of tremendous increase have been observed over the previous two years, Pichai continued. “We hired for a different economic reality than the one we confront today in order to meet and fuel that development.”
Employees in the United States who are affected by the layoffs
have already been informed, according to Pichai's tweet. He said that because of regional laws and customs, the process would take longer in other nations. Employees who are let go in the US will receive payment for the 60-day notice period, 2022 bonuses, unused vacation time, and a severance compensation starting at 16 weeks plus two additional weeks for each year of employment with Google. According to the statement from Friday, Google will also provide six months of healthcare, immigrant support, and job placement services.
Other tech goliaths than Google have started mass layoffs recently.
This week, Amazon started firing thousands of workers. Between the cutbacks we made in November and the ones we're sharing today.
