Georgia hearing to decide whether to release report. Trump lawyers won’t attend
Donald Trump's lawyers said that they won't appear at the Georgia hearing on Tuesday. A local judge will likely consider the release of the report of a grand jury into a broad investigation into the attempts by Trump and his associates to interfere with the 2020 election.
In a short statement, Drew Findling and Marissa Goldberg
Atlanta lawyers, stated that “to date we have not been a part in this process.” “The grand jury in Georgia required the testimony of many other officials, sometimes high-ranking during the investigation. However, it never considered it necessary to speak with President Obama.” According to the attorneys, Trump was not asked to give a voluntary interview.
The lawyers stated that
they could assume that the grand juror did their job and reviewed the facts and law. They concluded that President Trump had not violated the law. Robert McBurney, Fulton County Superior Court Judge, called the hearing to determine whether the grand jury's lengthy investigation, which included any recommendations related to possible prosecution of the former President and his aides, should be made publicly.
A special grand jury, such as the one that was seated in the election inquiry's election inquiry, does not have the authority to charge. Instead, the panel issues a recommendation and a report to the district attorney.
