No Messi here! St. Louis City SC places ban on all Lionel Messi jerseys
If St. Louis serves as a reliable barometer, Lionel Messi and his jersey No. 10 won’t be popular everywhere after the Argentine superstar joins Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami.
Messi jerseys would not be allowed in the “Supporter Section” at St. Louis City SC’s home stadium, CITY PARK, before the team’s match against Inter Miami on Saturday.
The message specifically stated, “For the July 15 match, this includes all Messi jerseys, shirts and gear – Miami, Argentina, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Newell’s Old Boys and Grandoli.” Opposing apparel is not permitted in that area.
St. Louis – Messi’s youth club was Grandoli.
Overkill? The French pub that used a Messi jersey as a doormat after Argentina upset France in the World Cup final was more offensive, perhaps, but not quite as much.
Maybe Inter Miami will perform better against St. Louis than they did on Saturday when they lost 3-0.
At DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Messi, 36, will make his international Leagues Cup debut on Friday when Inter Miami takes on Cruz Azul of Mexico.
How loud are Messi’s boos?
Even the supporters of the Paris Saint-Germain team, for which he played, booed the amazing football player. When Paris Saint-Germain lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League last year, they whistled at him in annoyance, and they jeered after other losses.
The same is true for the player who has a record seven Ballon d’Or victories.
