Which cruise cabins are the most and least expensive? What you need to know
My cruise recently travelled to Bermuda, and while there, it featured a water park and pool. However, spending time on my stateroom balcony relaxing was where I really got the vacation vibe.
I was able to unwind in a way I don’t typically do at home while sitting in the sun in my own area aboard Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ship, Carnival Venezia, as the waves rolled by.
Some tourists only use their cruise stateroom as a place to rest in between excursions. But it can make a trip for someone like me. Numerous ships offer a variety of categories in a range of price ranges, each with a unique set of benefits. Here are descriptions of the cheapest and most expensive rooms at the Venezia.
Which ship cabin has the lowest price?
The least expensive category of stateroom on a cruise is generally an interior or inside stateroom. According to Joy Hess, owner and principal travel adviser at Outside the Lines Travel, the staterooms are often the smallest on board and infrequently hold more than three passengers.
Additionally, they lack windows, which is something that seasick passengers who would benefit from some fresh air should be aware of. In some inside cabins, portholes include displays that replicate views, like the “magical portholes” on Disney Cruise Line, “so people don’t feel quite as landlocked, so to speak,” said Hess.
In reference to the cabin category, she added, “It’s a box with no view. Interior staterooms are ideal for travellers who only intend to leave their rooms to sleep.
The lowest interior staterooms on the Venezia come with a queen-size bed, twin beds, or Pullman beds, a TV, and a personal stateroom attendant. Prices vary depending on sailing dates and length, but a double occupancy interior room on a nine-day roundtrip cruise departing from New York to Miami and the Bahamas on February 2, 2024, starts at $459 per passenger.
The menu offers the majority of foods as well as beverages including iced tea, ordinary coffee, and others. Interior rooms, like other standard categories, have reduced base prices as well as lesser gratuities. According to Carnival’s website, basic cabins should tip $16 per person, per day. The queue will automatically add the fees to passengers’ onboard accounts if they haven’t paid for those tips in advance, however, they can change the amounts before disembarking.
The preference for interior rooms among some of Hess’ clients is not solely financial. She explained that some individuals are terrified of the water and don’t want to be aware that they are in the middle of the ocean. Others like sleeping in a dim environment without the morning sun to wake them up.
What is the cruise ship’s most expensive cabin?
According to Hess, multiroom suites are typically the most expensive accommodations on board. They can be thousands of square feet in size and frequently have roomy balconies.
They frequently include a variety of benefits as well. The most expensive room type on the Venezia, the Ocean Suites, come with a variety of perks, such as preferential boarding, debarkation, and main dining room hours; entry to the Terrazza Carnevale lounge area; special brunches on specific sea days; bathrobes; and more. However, the suites on the Venezia are smaller than comparable suites on other ships, measuring between 327 and 356 square feet.
The cost of such staterooms varies depending on the duration of the voyage and the sailing date, but an ocean suite on the same voyage departing on February 2, 2024, starts at $2,029 per person based on double occupancy. The daily gratuity for guests staying in suites is $18.
Hess suggested suite accommodations for vacationers who are travelling with extended families, are commemorating a significant event, or simply “want to experience a cruise without being around a lot of other people.”
There can be benefits even if you can’t get the exact accommodation you want. When Hess once slept in a low-deck room with an ocean view, her displeasure at the placement was quickly replaced by ecstasy when she spotted whales swimming by outside her window, which she claimed she wouldn’t have seen if she had been higher. Whatever happens, you can still make the most of it, she remarked.
