Tazmin Brits Surpasses Mandhana Sets New Record
At Holkar Stadium in Indore, South African cricketer Tazmin Brits made history during the 2025 Women’s World Cup match versus New Zealand. She hit 15 boundaries and a six to reach a century in just 86 balls.
This set a new record for the most hundreds in a calendar year in women’s cricket and the fifth ODI century for the British in 2025. With four hundreds apiece in 2024 and 2025, she eclipsed Indian opener Smriti Mandhana, who had previously held the record.
In 41 innings, the Brits also became the fastest players to reach seven ODI hundreds. The previous record, which was held by former Australian captain Meg Lanning, was broken by this. Tammy Beaumont of England and Suzie Bates of New Zealand come next, scoring the milestone in 62 and 81 innings, respectively.
Following a bow-and-arrow celebration for her century, Brits was bowled for 101 runs off 89 balls by Lea Tahuhu. South Africa was chasing 232 runs at that point and had reached 185/2.
Sophie Devine of New Zealand made her 300th appearance for her country with a solid showing in the first innings. She achieved her 17th ODI half-century with 85 runs off 98 balls, including nine boundaries.
Nonkululeko Mlaba, a left-arm spinner from South Africa, was instrumental in limiting New Zealand’s score.
In her second spell, which started in the 39th over, she claimed 4 wickets for 40 runs.
New Zealand’s batting order collapsed as a result of Mlaba’s bowling effort; their last five wickets fell for a just 37 runs. New Zealand’s total was kept to 231 runs thanks to this.
As the World Cup event enters its final stages, it is anticipated that both Mandhana and the British will vie for the record.
