Who has greater hops, Mario or the Easter Bunny? Maybe Michael Jordan. Ben Affleck directs and stars in a sports drama with Matt Damon that centers on Air Jordan basketball shoes, while Mario and Luigi from the popular video game series make their big-screen debut in an animated fantasy adventure with Chris Pratt, Seth Rogen, and Jack Black. Watch Owen Wilson in an art comedy as an unusual Bob Ross type. Here’s a list of new movies for every taste in cinema, along with several notable theatrical releases making their streaming and on-demand debuts:
New movies, If Mario Kart is your game, check out “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”
Between “The Last of Us” and this animated adventure, which captures the irresistible charm of Nintendo’s “Super Mario” universe, video game adaptations are on a winning streak. Chris Pratt’s spoken Mario and Charlie Day’s Luigi are plumbers who have been transported to a fantasy world with magic mushrooms, a princess in need of assistance (Anya Taylor-Joy), and a monstrous turtle villain with a huge crush (Jack Black).

If you like basketball movies from the 1980s, check out “Air.”
With this drama set in 1984 and based on Nike’s actual pursuit of an endorsement agreement with Michael Jordan, Affleck turns in one of his best directorial performances to date. The NBA rookie-to-be, played by a superb Matt Damon, catches the eye of basketball scout Sonny Vaccaro, who must pull out all the stops to steal him from Adidas and, most crucially, win Deloris Jordan over. (an outstanding Viola Davis).

How to Blow Up a Pipeline is a great heist movie twist if you like them.
Ariela Barer, Kristine Froseth, Lukas Gage, and Forrest Goodluck are among the up-and-coming cast members in this thriller about environmentalists who aim to blow up a West Texas pipeline to disrupt the oil business. Each member of the destruction crew has a significant past that is integrated into the ambitious and brilliantly nerve-wracking drama as they come together from all around the nation.

New movies, If you enjoy Bob Ross’ overall aesthetic: “Paint”
As Carl Nargle, a quiet-voiced Vermont painter famed for his natural landscapes who has dated every single female staff member at his PBS station and has a big ego, Owen Wilson embodies the infamously well-coiffed TV art instructor. His popularity is starting to wane, which makes him uncomfortable when a younger, more exciting, and far superior artist (Ciara Renée) appears to replace him in the oddball comedy.

Watch “Showing Up” to watch Michelle Williams co-star with a bird.
Williams and Hong Chau, two recent Oscar nominees, appear alongside a feathery companion in Kelly Reichardt’s understated slice-of-life dramedy. A stressed-out sculptor named Lizzy (Williams) is getting ready for an art show; however, her interactions with family and friends prevent her from being creative. As a result, she discovers a new buddy when she reluctantly adopts a pigeon with a broken wing.
