Manuel Neuer, the goalie for Bayern Munich, tears his calf while celebrating a goal.

Manuel Neuer, the goalie for Bayern Munich, will be out for a while after getting hurt while celebrating a score during Wednesday’s Champions League victory over Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayern announced on Thursday that Neuer, 38, had torn a muscle fiber in his right calf. The club also stated that Neuer “will be out for the time being.”
In the 58th minute of Bayern’s 3-0 victory in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 match, the goalie was forced to leave the game. When he pulled up in discomfort, he had just attempted to celebrate Bayern’s second goal of the evening, scored by Jamal Musiala.
Manu’s calf went out just as he was about to run. “He had previously mentioned that he was growing older,” teammate Joshua Kimmich jokingly claimed.
For his Bayern debut, 21-year-old Jonas Urbig, who was acquired from Cologne in the winter, started in Neuer’s place. On Saturday, when Bayern hosts Bochum, Urbig is probably going to make his Bundesliga debut.
Neuer failed to complete a game versus Leverkusen for the second time this season. When the teams played each other in the German Cup in December, the captain of Bayern was dismissed. After that, Leverkusen won 1-0. It was the only red card he had ever received.
The great goalie has previously sustained strange injuries. After the 2022 World Cup in December, he was skiing when he shattered his leg. Only in October 2023, in an 8-0 loss to Darmstadt, did he return after missing the remainder of the season?
Bayern’s victory over a Leverkusen squad led by Xabi Alonso on Wednesday was their first in seven meetings. Tuesday is the date of the second leg.
