Crappy TV moment results from President Biden’s appearance in the Macy’s Show
On Thursday, President Biden called the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to express his gratitude to first responders, making for some awkward television for parade fans.
The president and first lady Jill Biden made a call from the private equity billionaire David Rubenstein’s island home in Massachusetts. The call began with a protracted and uncomfortable silence as NBC’s Dylan Dryer, who was covering the parade, appeared unable to hear the couple for about 30 seconds.
I don’t usually take phone calls while watching TV, but I think I should take this one, Dreyer retorted.
Mr. President, good morning, the reporter asked.
After a few seconds of silence and confusion, Jill Biden could be faintly heard in the background, but no one responded.
I’m not sure I can hear you, Then Dreyer said. Are you listening, Mr. President?
Then Dreyer joined in, “Hello?” after hearing Biden speak to the first lady.
When that appeared to catch Biden’s attention, he said, “We’re here.”
Once the connection was made, Biden remarked, “I want to thank the firefighters and police officers, first responders.” “They never stop working.”
The first lady jumped in and continued, “And God bless our troops for sure.”
And by the way, we’ll be speaking with some of our soldiers later today, both domestically and abroad. “We think about them every day. God truly blesses our soldiers.
The Bidens were invited to the yearly parade for the second time, which this year includes 31 floats and 27 enormous balloons.
On Thursday at 11:30 a.m. ET, the duo is expected to phone US service members. But first, they took their 2-year-old grandson Beau to a Nantucket fire station.
The firefighters received some pumpkin pies from the Bidens in exchange for which Beau was given a miniature fire hat.
