Liberty Hit Season-High, Beat Sparks 105-97
Los Angeles — In Tuesday night’s 105-97 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks, Emma Meesseman scored a season-high 24 points, Jonquel Jones had 21 points and 11 rebounds, and the New York Liberty scored a season-high number of points.
In her 100th game as the Liberty’s coach, Sandy Brondello tied Richie Adubato for the most victories in the team’s history.
Natasha Cloud tied for the game’s biggest lead with back-to-back layups to put New York ahead 96-85. After Los Angeles missed a 3-pointer, Cloud made another basket in the lane to give them a 102-91 lead. With 1:22 left, Sabrina Ionescu added a layup.
New York (21-11), which was coming off an 83-71 loss to Minnesota on Sunday, had 20 points from Leonie Fiebich, 14 points and six assists from Ionescu, and 11 points from Cloud. Isabelle Harrison (concussion), Nyara Sabally (knee), and Breanna Stewart (knee) did not participate.
Los Angeles (15–17), playing their sixth game in eight days, with 26 points from Kelsey Plum. Dearica Hamby finished with four steals, eight rebounds, and twenty-one points. Rickea Jackson scored 16 and Azura Stevens scored 17. In the second half, Cameron Brink did not participate.
This season, the Liberty made the most 3-pointers of any Los Angeles opponent with 14.
